Nick became the Camp Temagami Director and an Owner in 2015. Nick, his wife Tracy and their two boys, Everett and Barrett, spend 4 months in Temagami each camping season. Nick works full-time during the off-season in Durham, North Carolina as the Camp Temagami Director.
Nick first set foot on the island as a camper in 1991. He progressed through the tripping program and had his own camper trip of a lifetime on the Albany River in 1995. Nick returned to Camp Temagami as a guide after earning a B.A. in Business Administration from Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee.
Nick has experience working with youth in the field as a Camp Temagami guide and teaching young adults in the classroom. He has earned Masters degrees in both Economics as well as Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Management from North Carolina State University. In conjunction with his studies, Nick has taught university classes in economics and outdoor recreation leadership.
Growing up just a few hours from camp, Tracy has been in a canoe since she was a toddler and spent her formative years exploring the wilderness and appreciating the connection to nature. This upbringing lead her to pursue degrees in BA / Environmental Studies as well as Outdoor Recreation, Parks and Tourism. Tracy has led trips for participants 2-70 years-old and from a 1-42 days in duration.
Nick and Tracy combined have more than 60 years of canoe tripping experience and have paddled over 15,000 km across some of Canada’s most picturesque wilderness. Their travels include nine trips to James and Hudson Bay, three long trips in each of Labrador and Ontario, trips on the Coulonge, Kipawa and Spanish Rivers, and numerous trips throughout the Temagami area.
Nick and Tracy are both grateful to be able to share their passion for canoe tripping and cherish the opportunity to raise their children in a positive and transformative camp community.
