Forest Fire Reroute ➡️ Harricana to Moose River
Hey, everyone!
It’s Kiera from Camp Temagami, and I just wanted to share some highlights from our incredible adventure with the Wigwasati section. We’ve had such a memorable time together, and even though you all have recently left the island, the guide team is still reminiscing about our fantastic journey.
This summer, we set out for the Harricana River but had to reroute due to a forest fire. Instead, we made our way down the Missinaibi and Moose River, which turned out to be just as beautiful and full of surprises. The adventure we shared was truly special, and I’m so grateful for how well you girls adapted to the changes.
The route we took offered some amazing highlights. We encountered stunning waterfalls and explored gorge sections that left us in awe. The Harricana provided some impressive big water that was both challenging and exhilarating. On the Moose River, we faced rocky, technical sections that tested our skills but were so rewarding to conquer.
One of the absolute best moments of the trip was our traditional Cree dinner in Moose Factory. Sharing this special experience together was a highlight and allowed us to connect with the local culture in a meaningful way.
But honestly, the best part of the trip for me was getting to know such a remarkable group of young women. Emilie Millar Filion, Adriana Musca, Aili North, Lindsay Woods, Ella Colligan, and Linden Wylie—you all were incredibly competent and a joy to be around. We shared so many laughs and created memories that I will cherish throughout the year.
As much as I’ll miss our time together, I’m hopeful we can keep in touch through snail mail. I can’t wait for our next adventure together, and I’m already looking forward to next summer!
