Session Three Tremblay: The DWO Loop with Fishing on Skunk

2024, Section Letters

The DWO Loop with Fishing on Skunk

Group of campers with paddles by a lake.

Hello,

Zoe here from Camp Temagami. I wanted to share a bit about the  trip we just had with the Tremblay section. This summer, we embarked on a wonderful loop up to Obabika Lake that took us to some incredible places, ending in Skunk Lake for a bit of fishing.

Our route was filled with beautiful sights, including a picturesque creek, some big and clear lakes, and a much-needed stop at Bear Island for a few sweet treats (shhhhh don’t tell the other sections!). Each location offered its own unique charm and added to the overall experience of our adventure.

As far as Camp Temagami goes, this is one of the more paddle heavy trips. While we had a number of Portages along the way, the DWO loop (Diamond, Wakimika, Obabika Loop) is like portaging on a highway. This trip touches a number of sections of well worn paths as access points for other routes, and was a great introduction to canoe tripping for many of the campers! Through headwinds and tailwinds, everyone got comfortable in the boats, and learned to read the signs of the wind as it brushes the tops of the lakes.

For me, the best part of the trip was all the moments we spent together laughing and having fun. The camaraderie and joy we shared made the trip truly special. We had a fantastic time, and I can’t wait to see all of you next summer for more adventures and trips like this one.

Take care and see you soon,

Zoe
