A toe in the Temagami River

Group on a dock beside a lake

Hello Camp Peeps,

I’m Sarah Burton, and I just wanted to share a bit about the amazing trip we just had with my co-guides, Eduardo and Nathan, down the Temagami River with five incredible boys. This summer, we embarked on a journey starting from camp, paddling through a few lakes, and then hitting the Temagami River. It was such a good time—a certified boys’ fishing trip with me along for the journey.

Some of the highlights of our route included navigating the Canyon Rapids, exploring Ragged Chutes, and visiting all these beautiful spots along the river. Our first campsite was a stunning island that everyone loved, and we even caught some fish there. We also enjoyed some nice rest day sights on the river, simply watching the water move and flow by so powerfully.

The best part of the trip for me was watching the boys really learn how to be out on a trip and work together. We had some returning campers, but most of our boys were new. It was incredibly rewarding to show them what we do, what we love to do, and why it’s so cool. A tough sell at first, but thankfully the landscape does all the work for us! These boys were great stewards of the forest and really embraced the “leave no trace” mentality – which means that should they one day return to the river it will look and feel the same way it did this summer!

We had such a fantastic time, and I can’t wait to see them all again next summer—hopefully for four weeks of more fishing and more adventure – there’s plenty more to explore.

Thanks,

Sarah
